BBC radio: the BBC is a public service broadcaster that operates several national stations, each stations have a distinct identity and has a target audience, the BBC is funded by licenses



public service is funded by licence fees and commercial radios are funded by advertisements throughout the radio for example a public service would be education or social work etc and an example of a commercial radio would be heart

Radio is still so popular because of how much different radio stations there are and you can choose what music you want via podcasts or different radio stations additionally you can listen to radio on the go for example a lot of people listen to radio in the car which is free and very accessible

The archers is still so popular because of many things including that it started right after WWI (1951) and it was about farming people would watch it to get tips on farming because after the war people were in a famine additionally the episodes are daily which means new content all the time and there also quite short (13 mins) so people can watch it easily and whenever also the show is the longest running and still gets 5million+ daily listeners this is because the show is very comforting and on-demand which is set in the country side in a rural community the target audience is middle age - older women who work at home it is a soap opera which means it includes a lot of female characters/families/work and relationships it has ongoing stories to keep the viewer hooked the show also reflects real life and is set in specific locations tends to feature more dialogue than action. Also the omnibus comes out on Saturday morning to catch up on anything they missed. The show normally comes out every night at 7pm.

The BBC uses various platforms such as Twitter or facebook, they do this to promote the Archers by starting online discussions on some of the episodes eg #freehelen. It is played on the radio everyday at 7pm and a omnibus on Sunday for whomever missed some throughout the week can catch up on. The archers is also promoted through podcasts to download and catch up on for anyone who missed some or wants to rewatch any episode

The three types of radio are community commercial and PSB.

The different between Commercial and PSB is Commercial uses advertising to get money whereas PSB uses public licence fee to broadcast there show


The archers fit to informing through mature subjects, An example of this is Domestic violence like in the Helen story which was a trending hashtag of #freehelen this also raised lots of money towards many charities. This links to the BBC remit because it links to real life situations and can tell people what others are going though.
